You Have Dwelt Long Enough in the Same Place
I’m finding more and more that God has just really spoken through the Old Testament. A lot of people say that we don’t live in the Old Testament and we don’t have to abide by the Old Testament. But listen, you are bound by the Old Testament if you don’t have Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You are bound by the laws of the Old Testament. But listen, God has a lot of words that He has spoken to the Children of Israel and to His People through the Old Testament.
Deuteronomy 1:6 (KJV) The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:
Some of you have been dwelling in the same place way to long. Yea, this is the same message that I am taking to the trailer park. I’m not going to be easy on you like I’m going to be easy on them. Ye have dwelt long enough. Many of you are in a condition and in a situation and in places and you’ve wallowed there for so long – you’re comfortable. How many times does it take God to tell you that you’ve been there long enough? When is long enough long enough? When is long enough too long?
Many of us – we get into situations and we sit. We might get our feelings hurt. Something tragic may have happen and we might have slipped into a situation and the first words out of our mouth are: “I guess this is the way that it is going to be. I guess I’m stuck here for the rest of my life.” You just put yourself in bondage. But listen, a lot of you are there and you don’t even realize that you are there because you’ve been there so long, you’ve become comfortable. I’m not just talking in the natural; I’m talking about in the spiritual sense. You are where you are with God. You are comfortable with where you are with God and you said that’s it and I’m not going any more. That’s as high as I want to go. And then you want to sit back and you want wonder why God isn’t moving in your life. We say: “Well, you know I see Sister Mary getting blessed. How come God is blessing her and I’m not getting blessed. So and so got a job. How come I can’t find a job? I guess I’m just stuck here on unemployment for the rest of my life. I guess I’m just stuck here.”
The Lord is telling us tonight: “You have dwelt long enough where you are sitting.”
Deuteronomy 1:7 (KJV) Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
How many times has God told you to get off of your butt and go? We say: “I can’t go any where.” You’ve done let your butt get welded to the seat. You’ve done dry rotted to the seat. Oh, let me rephrase that. Your thinking has done changed to stinking thinking and that’s the only thing that you can smell. You know that it don’t smell good, but your senses have become tolerant of it and you can no longer smell it. And you are settled in. But God has done told us to go. Look at all these places. Go to the mountain, go unto the plain, go unto the hills, go unto the vale, go unto the South, go by the sea side, go by the land of the Canaanites, and go down to the river. If God ever tells me to go to the river, I’m gone! I’m not sitting here. You know me well enough, if God tells me to go to the river, I’m going to the river. You can find me in Arkansas!
Look, we’re stuck. Many of you are in the same place that you’ve been for the last 3, 4, 5, 10 years and you see no way out. You have no hope. Jesus! There’s your hope. Jesus is your hope! You say that you trust Him. If you trust him, why don’t you take the journey? Are you scared? Jesus says that His love cast out all fear. So are you afraid of Jesus? Why are you afraid to take the journey? All you’ve got to do is take the step, but because you’ve settled in and you believe that’s the only place that you can be – you’ve settled into it. You’ve agreed to it. You’ve agreed to what the world has said and you’re allowing the world to put a grip on you, a vice grip on you that you believe that you can never get out of. I’m talking to a lot of you here tonight. You’re settled in and you’ve done got fat, lazy and happy where you are at. Laugh all you want, but I’m telling you that it’s the truth and you know that I am telling the truth. I can’t give it to you as sweet as I’m going to give it to the people at the trailer park.
Listen church, if Radiant Life is going to move off of dead center, we’ve got to go to the mountain. We’ve got to get off of where we are at and we’ve got to go. You can’t shake your head yes and say, “Oh yes Brother Jerry, that’s exactly right” when you don’t even split the doors 50% of the time. Don’t even shake your head yes, if you don’t even want to split those doors half of the time. If you don’t want to come in here and worship the Lord, you can’t shake your head yes that you are ready to go. You can’t say, “Yes, I’m ready to go. Let’s go Pastor. I’m ready to go.” Do you understand what I am saying, because you are lying? You are building up hope in somebody. You are giving people false hope and you are living a lie and then you want us to believe it. You are not lying to me. You are lying to God. God’s told you to go. God’s told Radiant Life to go. Yes, let’s go. But yet, we don’t even come in here and worship the Lord. But yet, we want to go tell everybody about Jesus. But yet, you won’t even open your mouth and tell people what Jesus has done in your life. How can you tell somebody about Jesus when you won’t even talk about it in church? You won’t even worship Him for what He’s done in your life. You won’t humble yourself to come down and repent before the Lord and allow God to change you. God’s been speaking to a bunch of you to get off of dead center and because you are settled in – God’s told you that you’ve dwelt long enough.
Deuteronomy 1:8 (KJV) Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.
Look at that last line: their seed after them. “Their seed after them” – who is that? YOU! US! We are that seed that is after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We’re part of that seed. Why are we not going and possessing? Part of it is called humility. We refuse to humble ourselves before the Lord because we think everything is so hunky-dory in our life and we don’t need to progress. We are okay – me and God – we’ve got our own thing going on. Let me tell you that you are probably lost and dying and going to hell, because you really don’t have it going on with God. Listen, let’s don’t slip any further. God’s saying: “Let’s get up and go.”
You can get out of your current situation, your current predicaments, and your current state of mind by turning it over to the Lord – by humbling yourselves and turning it over to the Lord Jesus Christ and letting Him take care of it. And if you don’t believe that you can change, then you don’t know Jesus Christ. You better hear me. If you don’t believe that you can change, you do not know Jesus Christ. Look, you can take it to the New Testament. Jesus says, “I’ll change you. A new heart I’ll put into man.” You have the mind of Christ. Well, does the mind of Christ live in the gutter? Then why do you feel like you are stuck in the gutter? Why do you feel like you can’t progress anymore than where you are at right now? It is because you are living a satisfied life.
You know Paul and that he knows how to be content. But, he also says that he knows how to be abased. But, he didn’t stay content very long, because he says that he understands the race that God has called him to run and he ran that race. Forgetting everything that was behind him, he set forth to run that race that was set before him. But you see we want to know the end, before we even cross the start line. We want to know what’s at the finish line. I’ll tell you what’s at the finish line. If you run your race, there’s nothing but a crown of glory for you. Listen, it doesn’t matter how many stars are in your little crown; there is a crown of glory for you, if you stay faithful to the route that God has you on. If you live it, if you breathe it, if you eat it, if you sleep it, and if you stay focused on what God has, you’ll cross that finish line and you won’t have to worry about a thing. But, we don’t want to do that.
Philippians 4:11-12 (KJV) Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Philippians 3:13-14 (KJV) Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Many of you think that I am totally insane for taking it to the streets. Insane or not, I’m insane for Jesus! And if you don’t want to go on June 27th, I’m telling you right now officially, “Stay home.” I do not want any unbelievers in the park. The only unbelievers that I want in the park are those. If you don’t have faith to see the lost saved, don’t come. If you are going to complain about it being 95 degrees, don’t come. I don’t care if you wear shorts. I don’t care if you wear t-shirts. I don’t care whatever you have got to do to be comfortable.
But what’s the objective? Go therefore and make disciples of all nations! What’s our nation? God has given us the nation of Keithville and it means that we’ve got to go! Look, they sure are not coming in here. So why don’t we go? Why don’t we go take it to the streets? Let’s get off of the mountain and I love y’all. But, let me tell you something. Don’t try to give anybody the promise of Jesus Christ when you’re not living the promise. If you’re not living the promise, don’t try to pass it on to somebody else, because you’re making a liar out of that promise. The only way to not make a liar out of that promise is to humble yourself before the hand of the Lord and to cast everything out and put your faith and your trust in Jesus Christ. If you can’t do that, don’t be trying to tell somebody else how to do it. Don’t try to tell somebody how to do it. You may say, “Bro. Jerry you are kind of just telling us if we don’t have it, then don’t even speak it.” God’s working in every one of your lives. Every one of you has a story to tell about what God’s done in your life and that’s your responsibility to tell those. So, why keep our mouth shut about it?
You know, I’ll be honest with you. We are taking it to the streets. If you’ve never driven through that trailer park and some are saying that it is not as bad as they thought it would be – no, but it is pretty bad. But you know what? Everything that I have been reading lately on Jesus – Jesus never went to the rich. He never went to the rich. Jesus never went into the scholar’s house. He went to the down and out. Jesus stayed, I don’t know but I think within about 100 miles of Jerusalem. He never went into Rome. He never went into the port cities. He stayed right there among the down and out. Why is that? That’s because those are the ones who need salvation. No, don’t get me wrong. The rich need it too. But listen, we can get these. These are like fruit that is just hanging there and they need hope. If you don’t have hope and you are living a lie, how can you give somebody else hope? How can you give them the hope? How can you love them if you don’t know the love of God yourself? If you are not letting that love of God just run and flow through you, how can you go give it to somebody else? How can you offer peace to somebody, when you don’t even have peace in your own life? You may be saying that I am hard tonight. I’m saying, “Let’s seek it. It is right here.” Our answer is right here. Get it for ourselves. Get it and then let’s go get it!
